Description

pictures of a wedding i was honored to photograph.i recently got the official ok to use them for my promotion.

jobs like that are helpful to make ends meet. plus: i learned a great deal (you all know that people aren't my favourite/best photo subject) and had much fun working with those two.
i used a warm tone filter to compensate the ugly windy autumn weather and a slight blur to gain the "official kitchy look" requiered for that purpose.

they are so cute together! both studying physics at the university of leipzig and will be a family of three in spring :).

Really good work. I like the green scenery you used as a background.
Not too fond of the hands one, I think that one is a little to tight.

Congrats

those picture are really great! I like the last one, it's good you take it because it's part of the real life ;) And there expression are great too! It's good idea to use a warm tone filter to conpense the automn, like you said. Do you use a Soft FX filter or do you apply this FX with PS? anyway, Amazing job Daniela! I like it!!

Ps: You give me an idea! I will post some picture of the wedding I took picture!

Let me put it straight.

These are wedding photos.
They are not very good. (I've seen way better wedding pics)
This is supposed to be an elite gallery.

Artistic impression: 1/10
Technique: 2/10

maybe i'm a cretain, but i don't give much about critics whose own works doesn't reflect the standart they demand.

At least I don't post in the Elite gallery.

Anyway...
I've seen some of your drawings and photos.
They are nice.
Still...
wedding photos? In an elite gallery? Why?
My comments may have been somewhat acid, but I still can't see the reason why someone would post wedding photos as some of their best works. This, unless they are extremely different and original from everyday wedding pics. And, to my opinion, these ones here don't really break the ice, from that point of view. Of course, the aesthetic view is always subjective, and some may find wedding pics as a form of art by themselves, due to the sacred and spiritual involvement of the subject. My opinion.

well dear, they ARE different for ME. because i liked the couple and they were a big step in my personal development - whether you share that sentiment or not.
having a golden icon is - imho - not about showing off some nebulous "elite skills" ( i don't think there is such thing), but about the process of self-devolpment, inspiration and communication about art. no artist is stuck on his/her level - everyone is evolving.

professional discussion aside a personal word:
your comments are more than little "acerbic". i appreciate honest critique, but also think it should be given in a civilized way (as much as i share your love for sarcasm). otherwise you won't be treaded seriously.

I guess it all comes down to a matter of principle: the purpose of web galleries.

I personally see them as a place to post what an author would consider his/her very best works (especially in the elite gallery). That's why I have very few works posted (which really suck, by the way). I posted some pics in the beginning to see where I'm standing, and now keep waiting for that one finished piece of work that would please me at least in a proportion of 95%.

I'm stressing this issue because I would really really NOT want Gfxartist to turn into something like www.deviantart.com, where everyone just seems to spit everything they come up with or what they think is cool/cute/funny and just wait for the users to define their work. (this somehow resembles the DaDaists ).
This may lead to a dangerous large bowl of kitsch. I believe it is the artist who has to define his/her work in the first place.

So, what I'm asking for is a bit more analysis and comparison before going head-forward with the posts.
I guess this is also a matter of personal standards and expectations, after all. If just knowing the subjects personally is enough for the author to post wedding photos , then I guess we have different views on the purpose of gfx elite galleries.

I tried to be a bit milder in this comment. It's really not in my nature to cut and slash with words, but I trully believe this issue requires reflection. By the way, not only positive critiques are civilised. I have been trying to avoid critiques directed at the author, but rather at the piece of work. If one can't cope with critiques, then why make his/her works public? Sometimes it just takes too much effort to translate negative straight-to-the-face critiques into milder, subtle ones. You also risk misinterpretation. The critiqued may think his/her works are just fine.

And your "you should see a professional for your unresolved anger" - that was really uncivilized.

Yes, the couple looks adorable. Yes, these photos have great personal significance to you. But do they to the others? Do they really have an artistical value? Careful: It's NOT the author the one who asseses the artistical value of a piece of work.
One question: Would you hang these photos in a real art gallery in the centre of Paris or New York?
That's how I see galleries (whether web or real).
My opinion.

what do you expect when posting a comment like this?
[irony] "Yes! Wedding photos. Oh how great artistical baggage these pictures carry. The light, the pose... Marvelous. "This suit is not black"" [/irony]

good civilised critique sounds different. take GFXartist sponsor Almost-Human as an example. i do respect him and his opinion even if i disagree in some points. and he's VERY direct.

and i DO consider these shots an example of my best work and posted them here because i wanted more critique on a subject i'm new at.
you don't agree with that definition of an art community. that's ok, your preference.

end of story.

If you're new in this area, then weren't you expecting a bit harsher critics? As I said, I have chosen a bit more aggressive style so that I wouldn't be misunderstood. And no matter how acid, I still didn't attack the person, as you did.
And you still haven't answered my former question.
